Kaiser Pediatric NF Clinic ~Oakland, CA~

How are Kaiser members referred to the NF Clinic?

Children and adults with NF1 or NF2 may be referred to the NF Clinic based on their need for evaluation by two or more specialty providers.  Referrals may be made by specialty providers, geneticists, genetic counselors, pediatricians, or any other provider. Patients and parents may also refer themselves.

Children and adults who have problems in more than one body system may be referred to the NF clinic. For example, a patient with both neurological and orthopedic problems would be a candidate for the NF Clinic. Patients may be seen for a one-time evaluation or may be followed at intervals in the NF Clinic.

Referrals are reviewed by the NF Clinic Coordinators, who decide whether the patient is appropriate for the NF Clinic. If a patient is not appropriate for the Clinic, recommendations may be made for individual appointments with specialty providers.
