Electronic waste, commonly referred to as “e-waste” or “tech-junk”, is the fastest growing segment of the waste stream. “Electronic waste” has been defined as equipment that is deemed obsolete and/or at the end of its useful life. Due to rapid advances in technology combined with consumers insatiable appetite for the latest gadget, the statistics are staggering regarding the amount of e-waste that currently exists with more accumulating everyday. Recycling and proper handling of electronic waste is essential for several reasons; electronic equipment contains a multitude of components that exhibit hazardous characteristics, such as lead and arsenic. Universal Waste Management, Inc., handles everything accordingly ensuring the quality of our air and water for future generations. Please help us to “UnWaste Your World”.

TASTE OF OUTBACK

Outback logoWhen: October 2008

October is our month for fundraising breakfast, lunch or dinners. Last year, Outback sponsored lunches in Vacaville, Fremont, and in Torrance. We would like to recruit other Outback restaurants throughout the state to join the fun! Email info@nfcalifornia.org for a proposal to submit to your local Outback restaurant.

We hope to have ten of these Outback dinners this year. In addition to raising funds, these dinners will raise awareness, bringing media attention to this little-known condition. We often wonder why so few people have heard of NF. These dinners will be an effective tool for spreading the word!

If you would like to host a dinner in your home town, help sell tickets, help gather raffle prizes/silent auction items, or volunteer for the day of the fundraiser. Call the NFC office at (707) 469-0467 or email info@nfcalifornia.org.

HIKE ACROSS AMERICA

Jodi saving this snapper off the roadCBS channel 4, quad cities When: October 2008

Jodi saving this snapper off the road.

CBS Channel 4, Quad Cities

Trip miles as of June 18, 2008 1943.10
I don’t know about you but that’s a lot of walking!

Where: Truckee, Foresthill, Auburn, Sacramento, Antioch, Walnut Creek, Oakland, San Francisco, Point Reyes Nat'l SS ETA 11/1

Who: Jodi and Josh

What you can do:

  • Raise awareness [email Debbie Bell to help]
  • Create a Hug-a-thon if you live close to a Hike Across America town
  • Schedule a luncheon or dinner to say “Thank you” and raise NF awareness

Having started in Delaware on March 1st by touching the Atlantic Ocean, Jodi hopes to make it to California to touch the Pacific by early November.   We have a VERY, special guests walking American Trail and arriving in California sometime in October.  The CALIFORNIA towns they will be walk through are:   Truckee, Foresthill, Auburn, Sacramento, Antioch, Walnut Creek, Oakland, San Francisco, Point Reyes Nat'l SS ETA 11/1

We need your help CALIFORNIA!!! We all want awareness here is the tool now we just need to get the word out. If you would like to help with this project please email Debbie Bell at dbell@nfcalifornia.org The "completed hike" media/hype is really important and can be big.

California media will definitely be interested in the story and it would be get to get some big National media stuff too... like the Today Show or Oprah.

Do you live in or close to any of these towns?

Hug-a-thons are great and simple to set up in a public place or at an event/festival.  Wouldn’t be great to schedule a luncheons or dinners to say “Thank you” but also we could spread NF awareness and help raise funds for a great cause.

Jodi and Josh should be hitting the Rockies sometime in July and as they near California we will be able to pin down some date. Jodi’s trail journal http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=211481 has a trip odometer, along with reading Jodi’s journal you can see daily miles walked and total miles to date.

Please let’s rally together as a state. Your help will be huge! The hike across America is just the attention grabber that we can use to promote NF. Jodi and Josh have done their job in promoting awareness lets promote NF and the Hike across America and show Jodi and Josh how much we appreciate what they are doing.
